St. Andrew’s missions
By tradition he preached around the Black Sea, blessed the hills of future Kyiv and was martyred in Patras.
Jerusalem
After Pentecost, by tradition the Apostles divided the lands where they would preach. Andrew received the shores of the Black Sea.
Sinope
Tradition says Andrew preached along the southern Black Sea coast and suffered beatings in Sinope.
Chersonesus
From Crimea, according to the Russian Primary Chronicle, he went up the Dnieper.
Kyiv hills
He planted a cross on the hills and foretold that a great city with many churches would rise there.
Byzantium
By tradition he ordained Stachys bishop of Byzantium, which is why Constantinople counts Andrew as its founder.
