St. Paul’s second journey

c. 49–52 · 12 stops

The Gospel crosses into Europe: Philippi, Thessaloniki, Athens and Corinth (Acts 15–18).

    1. Antioch

After the Council of Jerusalem, Paul sets out again, this time with Silas.

      Acts 15:36–40
    2. Tarsus

They pass through Cilicia, Paul’s home region around Tarsus, strengthening the churches.

      Acts 15:41
    3. Lystra

Young Timothy joins them, a disciple well spoken of by the brethren.

      Acts 16:1–3
    4. Troas

In a night vision a man of Macedonia pleads, “Come over and help us.” Luke joins the team here.

      Acts 16:8–10
    5. Philippi

Lydia, a seller of purple, is baptized: the first believer in Europe. Paul and Silas sing hymns in prison at midnight, and the jailer is baptized with his household.

      Acts 16:12–34
    6. Thessaloniki

Paul preaches three Sabbaths and founds the church he later writes two letters to.

      Acts 17:1–9
    7. Berea

The Bereans search the Scriptures every day to see if these things are so.

      Acts 17:10–14
    8. Athens

Paul speaks on the Areopagus about the “unknown god.” Dionysius the Areopagite believes.

      Acts 17:16–34
    9. Corinth

A year and a half making tents with Aquila and Priscilla, and the church of Corinth is born.

      Acts 18:1–18
    10. Ephesus

A short first visit to Ephesus, with a promise to return.

      Acts 18:19–21
    11. Caesarea

      Paul lands at Caesarea.

      Acts 18:22
    12. Jerusalem

He goes up to greet the church in Jerusalem, then returns to Antioch.

      Acts 18:22
