St. Michael’s Cathedral, Sitka

1848

Sitka was the capital of Russian America, and St. Innocent built St. Michael’s Cathedral there in 1844–1848 as the seat of his diocese. When the original burned in 1966, the people of Sitka carried out nearly all its icons and treasures, and the church was rebuilt exactly as it was. It is one of the oldest Orthodox cathedrals in the Americas.
