Holy Royal Passion-bearers
Nicholas II, the last Tsar of Russia, abdicated in 1917 and was held prisoner with his wife Alexandra and their children Olga, Tatiana, Maria, Anastasia and Alexei. On the night of July 17, 1918, they were shot with four of their servants in the basement of the Ipatiev House in Yekaterinburg. In captivity they prayed and read together, and they accepted their fate in a spirit of forgiveness. The Church of the Blood now stands on the site.
