St. Alexis Toth

1854–1909 · Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania · Feast May 7

Alexis Toth was a Greek Catholic priest from the Carpathian region who came to Minneapolis in 1889 to serve immigrants. The local Roman Catholic archbishop refused to recognise him as a married priest. Fr. Alexis studied the history of his people and led his parish back to the Orthodox Church in 1891. Through his preaching across Pennsylvania and beyond, tens of thousands followed. He is buried at St. Tikhon’s Monastery in Pennsylvania.
