St. Brigid of Kildare
Brigid was the daughter of a chieftain and a slave woman. She gave so freely to the poor that her father tried to sell her, until the king saw her holiness. She founded a double monastery at Kildare where nuns and monks lived side by side, and a school of art. Many stories tell of her generosity, like the cloak that spread to cover the land she needed for her monastery.
