Saint
St. Clement of Ohrid
Clement was one of the closest disciples of Cyril and Methodius. After Methodius died, their followers were driven out of Moravia, and Clement found refuge in Bulgaria, whose ruler sent him to Ohrid. There he founded a school that trained thousands of Slavic priests and teachers, and his circle is credited with the Cyrillic alphabet. He became the first bishop of the Bulgarian tongue and reposed in 916.
