St. Dionysios of Zakynthos

1547–1622 · Zakynthos · Feast December 17

Dionysios became Archbishop of Aegina and then lived as a monk on Zakynthos. One day a fleeing man begged him for shelter and confessed he had killed a man. It was Dionysios’ own brother, but he hid the murderer, forgave him and helped him escape, and the man repented and became a monk. His incorrupt relics rest in Zakynthos, and his slippers are said to wear out from his travels to help people.
