Saint
St. Mitrophan of Voronezh
Michael was a married parish priest who became a monk after his wife died and later the first bishop of Voronezh, where Peter the Great built his fleet. He gave his money to the shipbuilding, but refused to enter the Tsar’s palace while it was decorated with pagan statues, until Peter had them removed. He was the first saint glorified in the Russian Synodal period.
