Saint
St. Theophan the Recluse
George Govorov was a brilliant scholar who served in Jerusalem and Constantinople and became bishop of Tambov and Vladimir. In 1866 he retired to the Vysha hermitage and lived in seclusion for 28 years, serving the Liturgy alone in his cell. He translated the Philokalia into Russian and answered thousands of letters about prayer. His books, like The Spiritual Life, are still read.
