St. Varnava of Hvosno
Vojislav Nastić was born in Gary, Indiana, to Serbian immigrants and went to Serbia to study theology. As a young bishop in Sarajevo he refused to cooperate with the communist regime and was sentenced to eleven years in prison, where he was beaten and tormented. He died, probably poisoned, at 49. He was glorified in 2005, the first American-born Orthodox saint.
