Sts. Cosmas and Damian

3rd century · Cyrrhus, Syria · Feast November 1

The Church remembers three pairs of physician brothers named Cosmas and Damian, from Asia, Rome and Arabia. The pair honoured on November 1 were sons of St. Theodotia, who raised them in the faith. They healed people and animals free of charge, asking only that their patients believe in Christ. They are the best known of the Unmercenaries, the holy doctors who took no money, and they are invoked for healing and the blessing of water.

  • Feast: November 1 (New Calendar)
