Sts. Perpetua and Felicity

died 203 · Carthage · Feast February 1

Perpetua was a young noblewoman of Carthage, nursing her baby, and Felicity was a slave who gave birth in prison days before the games. Perpetua kept a diary in prison, one of the oldest writings by a Christian woman, telling of her visions and her father’s pleas to deny Christ. In the arena they were attacked by a wild cow, and Perpetua helped Felicity to her feet before they were killed by the sword.
