Sts. Sergius and Bacchus
Sergius and Bacchus were high-ranking officers of the emperor Maximian. When it was discovered they were Christians, they were paraded through the city in women’s clothing to shame them. Bacchus was beaten to death, and Sergius was forced to run in nailed shoes and beheaded at Resafa. A great pilgrimage city grew around Sergius’ tomb, later called Sergiopolis.
