Sts. Zosima and Savvatiy of Solovki

Savvatiy and Herman settled on the remote Solovetsky Islands in the White Sea around 1429, and Zosima came after Savvatiy’s death to build the monastery. It became one of the great monasteries of Russia, with its own walls, farms and fleet. In Soviet times it became one of the first Gulag camps, where thousands died, among them many saints.
