St. Agatha of Sicily

died 251 · Catania · Feast February 5

Agatha was a noble girl of Catania who had given her life to Christ. The governor Quintianus wanted her, and when she refused him he had her tortured, cutting off her breasts. By tradition St. Peter appeared and healed her in prison. She died after being rolled over hot coals. A year later her veil, carried in procession, stopped a lava flow from Mount Etna.
