St. Lucy of Syracuse
Lucy was a young noblewoman of Syracuse who gave away her dowry to the poor after her mother was healed at the tomb of St. Agatha. Her angry fiancé denounced her as a Christian. The governor tried to drag her away to a brothel, but she could not be moved even by a team of oxen. She was killed with a sword. In Scandinavia her feast is a festival of light in the dark of winter.
