St. Amphilochios of Patmos
Athanasios Makris was born on Patmos and became a monk at the monastery of St. John. Under Italian rule of the Dodecanese he secretly taught Greek children. He founded convents on Patmos, Rhodes and Kalymnos, and planted thousands of trees, telling his visitors that whoever plants a tree plants hope. He was a beloved confessor and was glorified in 2018.
