Saint
St. Benjamin of Petrograd
Vasily Kazansky was a priest’s son who became Metropolitan of Petrograd and was loved for his simplicity. In 1922 the Soviets ordered church treasures seized. He offered to give them to the starving if they were not used to mock the faith, but he was put on show trial. He was shot with three others, shaven and dressed in rags so the executioners would not recognise him.
