St. Daniel the Hermit
Daniel was a Moldavian monk who lived as a hermit in a cave near Putna. When Prince Stephen the Great, defeated in battle, came to him in despair in 1476, Daniel told him to fight on and build a monastery after his victory. Stephen won and built the painted monastery of Voroneț, where Daniel became abbot and is buried.
