St. Theodosius the Cenobiarch

c. 423–529 · Judean Desert · Feast January 11

Theodosius was from Cappadocia and settled in a cave east of Bethlehem where, by tradition, the Magi had rested. Monks gathered and he built a great monastery for Greeks, Armenians and Slavs, each with their own church, along with hospitals for the sick, the old and the mentally ill. He was made head of all the communal monasteries of Palestine and lived to about 105.
