Sts. Simeon the God-receiver and Anna the Prophetess

1st century · Jerusalem, the Temple · Feast February 3

Simeon had been promised by the Holy Spirit that he would not die until he had seen the Christ. When Mary and Joseph brought the forty-day-old Jesus to the Temple, Simeon took Him in his arms and said, “Lord, now let your servant depart in peace,” the prayer said at every Vespers. The widow Anna, who had prayed in the Temple for decades, gave thanks and spoke of Him to all.
