The Eastern Cross/Orthodox World/St. Cyril of Jerusalem

Saint
St. Cyril of Jerusalem
Cyril became bishop of Jerusalem around 350 and was exiled three times by Arian emperors. His Catechetical Lectures, given in the Church of the Resurrection to those preparing for baptism at Pascha, give a vivid picture of how the early Church taught and baptized. During his time a great cross of light appeared over Golgotha, which he described in a letter to the emperor. He took part in the Council of 381.
