Patriarchate of Jerusalem

Jerusalem is the Mother of all Churches, where Christ died and rose and the Holy Spirit came at Pentecost. St. James, the brother of the Lord, was its first bishop. For centuries the Patriarchate and the Brotherhood of the Holy Sepulchre have guarded the holy places, among them the Church of the Resurrection, where the Holy Fire comes forth every Holy Saturday. The Patriarchate stands next to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
