Sts. Joachim and Anna

1st century BC · Jerusalem · Feast September 9

Joachim and Anna were a devout couple of Jerusalem who were childless into old age and were mocked for it. They prayed with tears, and an angel told each of them they would have a child whose name would be spoken in all the world. Their daughter Mary was born, and at three they brought her to the Temple. The Church calls them the Ancestors of God and remembers them the day after the Nativity of the Theotokos.
