Constantin Brâncoveanu ruled Wallachia for 25 years and built many churches and monasteries in a style named after him. In 1714 the Sultan had him brought to Constantinople with his four sons and his treasurer and ordered them to become Muslims. They refused, and they were beheaded one by one on the prince’s 60th birthday, the father encouraging his sons to the end.
