Apostle Timothy

died c. 97 · Ephesus · Feast January 22

Timothy was raised in Lystra by his grandmother Lois and mother Eunice, who taught him the Scriptures. He joined St. Paul on his second journey and became like a son to him. Paul made him bishop of Ephesus and wrote him two letters: “Let no one despise your youth.” By tradition he was beaten to death by pagans when he tried to stop a festival procession.
