St. Mary Magdalene

1st century · Ephesus · Feast July 22

Christ cast seven demons out of Mary of Magdala, and from then on she followed Him and served Him from her own means (Luke 8:2). She stood at the Cross when most of the disciples had fled, came to the tomb with myrrh before dawn, and was the first to see the risen Lord, who sent her to tell the Apostles. By tradition she preached in Rome, where she gave the emperor Tiberius a red egg and told him “Christ is risen.” She reposed in Ephesus, and her relics were later carried to Constantinople.
