Saint
St. Arsenius the Great
Arsenius was a Roman senator and tutor to the sons of the emperor Theodosius. He heard a voice say, “Flee from men and you will be saved,” and he left the palace for the desert of Scetis. He wept so much in prayer that he wore a cloth on his chest to catch his tears. He said, “I have often regretted speaking, but never keeping silent.”
- Feast: May 8 (New Calendar)
