St. Philoumenos of Jacob’s Well
Philoumenos Hasapis was a Cypriot monk who served for decades in the Holy Land. From 1979 he was keeper of the church over Jacob’s Well in Nablus, where Christ met the Samaritan woman. A fanatic who demanded the removal of the icons attacked him during Vespers and killed him with an axe. He was glorified in 2009.
