St. Photini the Samaritan Woman

1st century · Sychar, Samaria · Feast February 26

At Jacob’s well in Samaria Christ asked a woman for a drink and told her about living water and everything she had ever done (John 4). She ran into town saying, “Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did,” and many believed. At baptism she took the name Photini, “enlightened.” By tradition she preached in Carthage and Rome and was martyred under Nero with her sisters and sons.
