The Eastern Cross/Library/The Canonical Epistle
The Canonical Epistle
In the Great Persecution many Christians gave in under torture or bribed their way out. St. Peter, archbishop of Alexandria, set out how each should be received back. His canons became part of Orthodox church law. This edition prints them with the later commentaries of Balsamon and Zonaras.
He was beheaded for Christ a few years later, the last martyr of that persecution in Alexandria.
