Augustine tells God the story of his life: a restless youth, years of searching through philosophy and heresy, the prayers of his mother St. Monica, and the day in a garden in Milan when he heard a child singing “take up and read.”

The Orthodox Church honours him as Blessed Augustine. Some of his later teaching, on grace and on the Holy Spirit, the Church does not follow, but the Confessions is loved everywhere as a book of prayer and repentance.
