An Exact Exposition of the Orthodox Faith
St. John of Damascus · image, public domain
John gathered the teaching of the Fathers before him into a hundred short chapters: God and the Trinity, creation, Christ, the Mother of God, the Mysteries and the holy icons.
It is one of the first complete summaries of the faith, and the Church has leaned on it ever since.
