of the Orthodox, Catholic, Eastern Church
St. Philaret of Moscow · image, public domain
The catechism St. Philaret wrote for the Russian Church in the 1820s: the Creed, prayer and the Lord's Prayer, the Beatitudes and the Ten Commandments, all explained in questions and answers.
It is still one of the most complete short guides to what the Orthodox Church teaches.

About this edition
Translated by R. W. Blackmore (1845), as printed in Philip Schaff, The Creeds of Christendom, vol. 2 (1877). The questions were numbered by Schaff.
This translation is in the public domain. We took the text from the Christian Classics Ethereal Library and left out the editors’ footnotes.
Books help, but they don’t replace the life of the Church. If something here raises a question, bring it to your priest. No parish yet? Find one near you.
