Written for the emperor Gratian in the year of the Second Ecumenical Council, which finished the Creed's article on the Holy Spirit. St. Ambrose draws heavily on St. Basil and St. Didymus to show the West that the Spirit is God.

It is a good place to see how the Fathers of East and West shared one faith.
