The Shepherd of Hermas
Hermas · 2nd century
A Christian in Rome named Hermas sees visions of the Church as an old woman growing younger, and an angel dressed as a shepherd gives him commandments and parables about repentance.
For a time it was one of the most read Christian books of all, and St. Athanasius recommended it for new converts.
