Hilandar Monastery

1198

Sts. Simeon and Sava founded Hilandar on Mount Athos in 1198 as the spiritual home of the Serbian people. It holds the wonderworking icon of the Three-handed Theotokos, tied to St. John of Damascus, and a great library of Slavic manuscripts. A fire in 2004 destroyed much of the monastery, and it has been rebuilt since then.
