St. Paisius of Hilandar
Paisius was a Bulgarian monk at Hilandar on Mount Athos. Saddened that Greek and Serbian monks mocked Bulgarians as people with no history, he spent years in the libraries of Athos and wrote the Slavonic-Bulgarian History in 1762, calling Bulgarians to be proud of their saints and kings. Copied by hand across the land, it began the Bulgarian national revival.
