Holy place
Kyiv Caves Lavra
Around 1051 St. Anthony dug a cave in the hills above the Dnieper, and with St. Theodosius he founded the monastery that became the cradle of monasticism in Rus’. Hundreds of monks over the centuries are buried in its underground passages, and pilgrims walk through the caves by candlelight past the incorrupt relics of saints. The Lavra’s Paterikon, the lives of its saints, has been loved for generations.
