St. Katherine of Alexandria
Katherine was a noblewoman of Alexandria, famous for her learning. After a vision of Christ she was baptized, and she went before the emperor to rebuke his persecution of Christians. He sent fifty philosophers to argue her out of the faith, and instead she converted them, and they were martyred. The spiked wheel meant to tear her apart shattered when it touched her, and she was beheaded. By tradition angels carried her body to Mount Sinai, where the monastery now bears her name.
