Second Council of Constantinople

553

In 553 the emperor Justinian called the Fifth Ecumenical Council to heal the division over Chalcedon. It condemned writings known as the Three Chapters that leaned towards Nestorius, and it confirmed that Christ is one divine person, the Word of God, who became man. It also condemned the speculative teachings linked with Origen. It met in Constantinople in the years when Justinian’s Hagia Sophia had just been built.
