Sts. Constantine and Helena

died 337 and c. 330 · Constantinople · Feast May 21

Before the battle at the Milvian Bridge in 312, Constantine saw a cross of light in the sky with the words “In this sign, conquer,” and he won. In 313 he ended the persecution of Christians, and in 325 he gathered the Council of Nicaea. He built Constantinople as a Christian capital. His mother Helena went to the Holy Land in old age, found the True Cross and built churches over the holy places. Constantine was baptized on his deathbed in 337.
