St. Methodios of Constantinople
Methodios was a monk from Syracuse who defended the icons and was imprisoned for nine years by the iconoclast emperor Michael II, shut in a tomb on an island with two thieves. When the empress Theodora ended iconoclasm in 843, he was made Patriarch of Constantinople and led the first Sunday of Orthodoxy procession. He was a gentle shepherd to those who repented.
