Apostle Peter

died c. 64 · Rome · Feast June 29

Simon was a fisherman of Bethsaida, brought to Christ by his brother Andrew. Christ named him Peter, “the rock,” after he confessed, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” He denied the Lord three times on the night of the Passion, and after the Resurrection Christ restored him three times by the Sea of Galilee: “Feed my sheep.” He preached the first sermon at Pentecost, led the Church in Jerusalem and Antioch, and at Rome, by tradition, asked to be crucified upside down because he was unworthy to die as his Lord had.
