Tatiana was a deaconess in Rome, the daughter of a Christian consul. Under the emperor Alexander Severus she was ordered to sacrifice to Apollo, and when she prayed, an earthquake shattered the idol. She was tortured and thrown to a lion, which lay down at her feet, and at last she was beheaded. Moscow University was founded on her feast in 1755, and Russians keep Tatiana Day as students’ day.
