St. Paraskevi of Rome

2nd century · Rome · Feast July 26

Paraskevi was born to Christian parents who named her for Friday, the day of the Lord’s Passion. After they died she gave away her inheritance and travelled preaching the Gospel. Under the emperor Antoninus she was thrown into a cauldron of boiling oil and tar, and the emperor, who had been blinded by the fumes, was healed when she sprinkled him. She was beheaded. She is one of the most loved saints in Greece and is prayed to for eye diseases.
