St. Agnes of Rome
Agnes was a Roman girl of about twelve who refused marriage, saying she was promised to Christ. The governor’s son tried to dishonour her, and when she was stripped her hair grew to cover her. She was killed by the sword under Diocletian. Her name is like the Latin for lamb, and she is shown with a lamb in her arms.
