The Eastern Cross/Orthodox World/St. Luke the Evangelist

Saint
St. Luke the Evangelist
Luke was a Greek physician from Antioch who joined St. Paul on his journeys and stayed with him to the end: “Only Luke is with me” (2 Timothy 4:11). He wrote the third Gospel and the Acts of the Apostles, and his careful account gives us the Annunciation and the Nativity. Church tradition holds that he painted the first icons of the Theotokos. He lived to 84 and reposed in Thebes in Boeotia, where his tomb can still be visited.
