St. Porphyrios of Kafsokalyvia
Evangelos Bairaktaris was a poor shepherd boy from Evia who ran away at fourteen to Mount Athos. He received from God the gift of seeing into people’s hearts and lives, which he used only with great love. For 33 years he served as the priest of the Athens Polyclinic, visiting the sick and confessing thousands. His words, gathered in the book Wounded by Love, teach that the Christian life is joy and love for Christ. He reposed on Athos in 1991.
